More wind - but a bit lighter.

June 13, 2015 - The Hatchery

With everyone here not, the old habits returned.  Coffee at Dog River as one by one each of the gang dragged themselves in.  Then across the street to Bette's for breakfast.  After breakfast, most headed to the Shops to check out what gear is available.

The forecast was for lighter wind either in the Corridor or at Stevenson.  No one was in a Hurry.

René compares our group to a bunch of Lemmings.  Everyone wanders around aimlessly until someone make a random decision, and then whether the decision is right or wrong, the gang all follows.  There is certainly some truth to this - although I am not sure we are giving Lemmings enough credit...  when I read about their behavior on Wikipedia - they seem to be smarter than this.

The Call was either Stevenson (where the wind was supposed to be marginally stronger, but starting later), the Hatchery, or Swell.  The general consensus was Stevenson.

After some shopping, and no one really making a move, Kent decided to go to Swell City.  The wind was not strong, but was sailable.  Following René's's Lemming theory, most of the rest followed. There was a lot of sitting around on the beach waiting for more wind, until Kent got out on the water on his 6.6.  Of course there is alway one who thinks that the original thinking would change at the last minute.  We got a call from Al who was at Bob's Beach in Stevenson - wondering where all the rest of us were.  There was no wind at Stevenson yet, so Al returned to join us at Swell.  (Who knows which was the correct call).

All in all, it was a very good day.  If we had been at home, we would have thought it was an exceptional day.  I demo'd a NASH Starship board, but wasn't really  impressed with it (although to be fair, I was really under powered with it).  I switched to my 135l Fanatic Shark and had a great session.  Kent, Gerry, Blain and Brad had a great time racing each other back and fourth.  Most guy's were on 6 meter sails plus.  Mike was making his 5.6 Hucker work and practicing slogging in the lulls.  I think Al got the award for the most sailing of the day.

The wind averaged about 30kph with gusts to 50.  The issue is always the lulls but what the heck.

Ross and Andreas enjoyed another good day of Kiting.

Gerry - getting air with his 6.6 Hucker!
Great Day!

We sailed until about 6:00pm, and then all headed to Ross's condo for pizza and the premier viewing of the 2014 Gorge Video.  The pizza was great, there was lots of wine and beer, and everyone seemed to enjoy the movie.  It was a relatively late night with everyone staying up until at least 10:00pm.....

Andreas found out Friday that he had a new job, so he was heading home first thing in the morning. Ross drove him to the Airport at 4:00am.
